The frustration and pressure we sometimes feel in our businesses can be due to the fact that we’re taking action based on past experiences, other’s opinions, old habits and outdated beliefs!
Even though I was desperate to escape from corporate life I was so worried about what my family and friends would say that I nearly didn’t leave. Thankfully, life worked on my behalf and circumstances organised to make the transition go well. Otherwise I would have missed out on some amazing experiences.
I’ve now set my heart on more changes but it doesn’t necessarily get easier.
It can take huge amounts of courage and determination to strike a new path, whether it is starting a business venture, changing your beliefs, moving to a new country or being more visible in your business.
Because the challenge is that we can get very stuck in old patterns of living, relating and working. We might know they no longer serve us but we’re too afraid to change.
When you know deep down that you are ready to get unstuck and follow your heart, here are 5 ways to take control and create a new reality.
- Make peace with the past. Failure is just part of doing business and for each of us it is a very individual experience. When you shift your perspective about what’s happened and trust that everything is ultimately working on your behalf you can become less attached about the outcome. As Steve Jobs said “You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart even when it leads you off the well-worn path; and that will make all the difference.”
- Let go of what no longer serves you by clearing out old paperwork, projects and vision boards that just don’t fit any longer.
- Release old beliefs about yourself that are holding you back and embrace a new way of showing up. Personally, I always need help with this. Often our limiting beliefs are blind spots which only another person can help you untangle.
- Change your perception and you will change your experience. If things are not working out as you expected then take a step back, release your negative emotions and open up to a greater awareness of the situation. You will be able to think more creatively and take more inspired actions from a more expansive place
- Immerse yourself. Do everything you can to live your new reality now. Whether this is showing up as a leader, using positive language, mixing with a new peer group, investing in your development, or changing your environment.
New realities start with small changes every day. So why not have more fun now, do things differently and create a business and lifestyle that you adore.
