The author, Ralph Ransom wrote, ‘Life is a series of steps. Things are done gradually. Once in a while there is a giant step, but most of the time we are taking small, seemingly insignificant steps on the stairway of life’.
Every day is an opportunity to take those small steps in your business which over time will build, grow and gain momentum, but in doing so it’s key to focus on what’s important and will make a difference.
The best way to do this is to show up as the CEO and not the administrator.
As the CEO your daily attention will more likely be on:
Reviewing and taking action on your business plan– this will guide your decision making and keep you moving forward on your vision and goals. It will provide a common thread throughout your day no matter how busy you are.
Allocating time to important revenue generating tasks – aim to spend at least 60-90 minutes per day on income producing activities such as workshops, projects, proposals, products and services… as well as space to explore and research new approaches. Who knows what might spark a million dollar idea!
Connecting with existing and potential clients– You’ll probably notice that the most successful companies have a steady flow of marketing activity that ensures visibility of their brand. What can you do to keep interest alive in you and your business?
Managing your money– unless you’ve got a handle on your money it could become a source of concern, anxiety and stress. Knowing and focusing on your money targets and what you need to do to achieve them will help you plan ahead. And as what you focus on grows why not make this one of your daily habits.
Self care– In a Forbes article Klaus Kneale writes, ‘A low-energy CEO is a problem for any company–as is a stressed out one. Decision making and attention suffer. Family life is impaired, too, as work takes longer to get done and uses up energy that a less fatigued CEO could save for after hours’. How you look after yourself on a daily basis will have an impact on your energy levels which in turn will affect everything you say and do in your business.
