The art of letting go. Knowing when to quit!

Have you ever held onto a project, role, or idea long past the point of financial, personal or professional fulfilment?
Sometimes, walking away isn’t about failure—it’s about making space for something better. While change can be daunting, recognising when to move on can be a step toward more personal and professional satisfaction and growth.
Here are a few key signs that it might be time to make a change:
~ Misalignment with Your Values & Vision – If your goals no longer match the project or role, frustration and disengagement often follow.
~ Minimal Progress Despite Maximum Effort – When hard work and adjustments don’t lead to meaningful results, it’s probably time to re-evaluate your time and investment.
~ The Cost Outweighs the Reward – If a role or project demands more than it gives back—financially, emotionally, or creatively—it may be time to shift priorities.
~ External Feedback Suggests a Lack of Fit – If stakeholders, clients, or the market indicate low viability in your product or service, their insights can help guide your next move.
~ Loss of Passion & Excitement – If the spark that once inspired you has faded, it’s worth considering whether a new direction is needed.
Letting go isn’t about giving up—it’s about evolving. Recognising when to quit can open doors to fresh opportunities, new learning experiences, and ventures that align better with your skills and aspirations.
What’s something you’ve let go of that made room for something better? I’d love to hear from you!
For me, it was stepping away from a well-paid corporate role that no longer gave me a sense of purpose. Instead, I embraced the freedom and challenge of self-employment.
When making a big decision like this, seeking guidance is essential. Before taking the leap, I worked with a business coach and a financial mentor to clarify my options and plan ahead.
If you’re contemplating a change and want support, I’d love to help. I offer one-on-one coaching sessions and in-depth programmes for women business owners and female executives.
